Diamond Lake Yacht Club
Originally organized as a sailing club, DLYC has broadened its purpose.
Today we are dedicated to Sailing, Youth Development, Social Activities,
Water Safety and Lake Preservation. Sailing and Sailboat Racing remain
a key attraction to today's members. The years have seen fleets come and
go consistent with regional and national trends. MC's, snipes, Thistles,
Hobie Cats, M16's, and Nationals all are fond memories. Many are the parents
and adults of today who remember their youth learning to sail a Nipper,
Sailfish, or Sunfish.
The youth are one of the DLYC's greatest assets,
as any organization that aims to sustain itself recognizes. Our Swimming
Program is entering its 56th year and remains a popular attraction
to children of all ages. Many of our kids participate in our annual
Island Swim, a fitness swim from the yacht club pier to the island!
The club continues to offer sailing instruction and junior racing
complete with trophy presentations. Over the years this program has produced
some of the area's finest sailors who have distinguished themselves in
national competitions. Not all the fun is on the water, though. There are
many activities offered throughout the summer to keep our youth and teens
busy such as movie and game nights, craft days, and parties.
Many of today's members
do not own sailboats, yet they see DLYC as a great place to meet and
socialize with Diamond Lake friends and neighbors. From early spring
to late fall, there are a variety of social events to appeal to the entire family. These include family
barbeques, dinners, football parties, brunches, a bridge group and more.
